چکیده

Action representation for robust human activity recognition is still a challenging problem. This thesis proposed a new feature for human activity recognition named SIFTMotion Estimation (SIFT-ME). SIFT-ME is derived from SIFT correspondences in a sequence of video frames and adds tracking information to describe human body motion. This feature is an extension of SIFT and is used to represent both translation and rotation in plane rotation for the key features. Compare with other features, SIFT-ME is new as it uses rotation of key features to describe action and it robust to the environment changes. Because SIFT-ME is derived from SIFT correspondences, it is invariant to noise, illumination, and small view angle change. It is also invariant to horizontal motion direction due to the embedded tracking information. For action recognition, we use Gaussian Mixture Model to learn motion patterns of several human actions (e.g., walking, running, turning, etc) described by SIFT-ME features. Then, we utilize the maximum log-likelihood criterion to classify actions. As a result, an average recognition rate of 96.6% was achieved using a dataset of 261 videos comprised of six actions performed by seven subjects. Multiple comparisons with existing implementations including optical flow, 2D SIFT and 3D SIFT were performed. The SIFT-ME approach outperforms the other approaches which demonstrate that SIFT-ME is a robust method for human activity recognition.

Feature Tracking and Motion Compensation for Action Recognition

This paper discusses an approach to human action recognition via local feature tracking and robust estimation of background motion. The main contribution is a robust feature extraction algorithm based on KLT tracker and SIFT as well as a method for estimating dominant planes in the scene. Multiple interest point detectors are used to provide large number of features for every frame. The motion ...

Improving SIFT accuracy with use of perspective transforms

Feature extraction is a widely used technique in the field of image recognition, multimedia information retrieval. known techniques for this feature extractions are ORB, SIFT, SURF, Wavelets and many more. One part of MIR is object recognition, and with object recognition comes object finding, or homograph finding. This uses a method called RANSAC to determine where an object is in a scene, usi...

Video Stabilization using Block Based SIFT Triangulation without Accumulative Global Motion Estimation

In Feature Based Motion estimation, the most time consuming process is the key point extraction (features) and their similarity measurement. In our paper, we use SIFT based feature extraction in adjacent frames. Based on similarity measurement, few features are selected. The selected features are used to calculate the motion vectors or Global motion between two frames. The computation complexit...

SIFT based iris recognition with normalization and enhancement

SIFT is a novel and promising method for iris recognition. However, some shortages exist in many related methods, such as difficulty of feature extraction, feature loss, and noise point introduction. In this paper, a new method named SIFT-based iris recognition with normalization and enhancement is proposed for achieving better performance. In Comparison with other SIFT-based iris recognition a...
